The humor is so sharp, so witty, so subtle, in fact, that you'd almost swear there wasn't any at all.

yeah I've read a lot about that today.  As a Batwoman fan, I know the context and what happened in the comic with her engagement.
Now from what it seems (and from what the creative team have said), it was phrased in a homophobic way.  It's much more it being marriage in general that they don't like.  A pretty common thing in comics is that the people in charge don't like marriage because they think it ages the character.  Marvel had Peter's marriage to Mary Jane removed from continuity is a world-altering storyline for example.  With the thankful exception of Aquaman and Mera (I guess they are ok with a king being married because of the whole patriarch aspect), the comic companies have tried to end pretty much every marriage because they want their heroes to be young.
Now if they have an actual reason for this, such as them bringing back the character who Batwoman had a relationship with in the past but hasn't been in comics for the last couple years and having a love triangle emerge from that, then there is a reason.  If they don't turn out with a real reason like that, then yeah it's kind of stupid and while I normally defend DC in many situations, this does seem to be a bit much that I even find ridiculous.
The writers say it's not an anti-gay reason (comics have been generally progressive about gay people which has given a lot of cool things so this situation seems really odd.) but this still does look pretty suspicious.  There is a pretty big chance that it's probably about the anti-marriage in general thing, but honestly most fans don't think it ages them and don't really care.
Keep in mind Batwoman had a fairly pronounced lesbian sex scene in one of its issues too and that was published fine with pretty much no controversy (while the Catwoman/Batman straight sex scene had a lot of controversy) xD

The creative team also listed other reasons why they left and it seems their editor was maybe putting their hands in the book a bit too much (an editor has a right to make changes to fit with continuity and such but their is balance needed, they can't order their creative team around too much).

So the best thing to do is for fans to keep an eye on Batwoman and see what happens in regard to the plot-line.  For all we know, the editor is worried about showing the wedding and they'll just be married off page or whatever Tongue

edit- one thing that makes this strange is that the comic companies love having gay stuff in their comics, it's great publicity.  So not wanting this seems kind of odd and the opposite of their usual ideas to push gay characters such as Alan Scott into important roles.
edit2- https://twitter.com/JHWilliamsIII/status/375495784646471680 < co-writer/artist of Batwoman adding a detail.  I think the main problem is the editorial stuff.  DC isn't an anti-gay company, but they do have a lot of editorial problems causing people to occasionally walk off their books, so this is presumably just another version of that.
