I'm in need of a "new" one because the top screen on mine has finally decided to give out on me. My DS Lite didn't necessarily have the hinge problem, I mean the top screen could open and close normally, it's just something is wrong with the interior connections I believe that just makes the screen stay white.

So should I buy another DS Lite model (that is in good condition of course) or try and get a DS Phat? I will be needing either  one purely for RNG purposes and AR stuff.

Go for a DS Lite. It's sleeker, and it's more comfortable to hold on to because of the smaller size. There wouldn't be a lot of difference between the prices of both anyway since both are really old.

As much as I like my regular DS (which has the bonus of less likely knocking out your gba game Tongue), the DSlite's screen is lighter which is why you should choose it, it also is better to hold onto and there are some great special versions of it (I love my dialga palkia special DSlite Cheesy )

Lite bro. 1000x better.
Would still have mine if I didn't trade one for the 3DS and the other for the Vita. Wink

But shouldn't you get a 3DS? Do you have a 3DS?
It plays well enough on it and there are tons of games including X&Y.

Regular 3DS has terrible upscale quality on DS games and can't play GBA games.

I have both a 3ds and a 3ds XL, and even a DSi XL, the sole reason I need a DS that predates the DSi is purely for RNG'ing Pokemon, the menu screen is absolutely essential because it has the seconds hand on the clock. And as a secondary use for the DSL would be for my Action Replay.

As much as I like my regular DS (which has the bonus of less likely knocking out your gba game Tongue), the DSlite's screen is lighter which is why you should choose it, it also is better to hold onto and there are some great special versions of it (I love my dialga palkia special DSlite Cheesy )

I'm looking at two limited edition ones right now, a DP one and a Zelda one  Smiley

Thanks everyone for your replies! It's much appreciated.

I found the DS Lite to be more durable.
I have dropped my DS Lite a ton, and it still works.

The first time I dropped my original DS, it broke.

Also the DS Lite has better hardware, it's less laggy in games like B/W.
The screens bigger and brighter.
The touch is more responcive.
Overall it's better in all categories other than GBA Game holding.

This DS Lite that I've had has lasted me for over 5 years, I kind of knew that the top screen would eventually give out on me after the screen started to be white at some angles (I honestly don't remember dropping it or anything, but I can't be 100% sure). I had a Cosmo Black one but it did have the broken hinge problem, but I was able to sell it a year ago for about $30.

I guess I'll have to wait a while to breed a Modest Vespiquen.
