Thanks, off to KhanAcademy I shall go!
Here's a really good YT channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/patrickJMT?feature=watch
I got my head around a lot of things thanks to this guy.

You're talking to me as if I really was a teacher lol. There's nothing to study really, not even programming. The best way to learn is to practice, and I'm focusing on programming and logic. I am no mathematician myself, I just happen to like using maths in programming because it's an easy way to determine if one has the right logic to solve the problem.
If anything is too advanced, I will note the skills required to solve the problem. For example, if I ask for the volume of a sphere, I will probably write the formula or link you to an article. I'm teaching programming, not maths. Though that would be cool as well.
I am using Eclipse, but you could program on Notepad if you wanted. I made a tutorial on how to configure Eclipse, and I'm now writing another one about using it efficiently.
I only know Graph Theory, and it's already awesome as hell! I want to make a game that uses graph theory. Like 20000 Light Years in Space.
Says the guy with the Padawan University form and has the headteacher rank Tongue You're no doubt making yourself out to be a teacher hehe Tongue

Good to here Smiley Although do you think there is any maths that I should revise, just to be safe?

I'm guessing we'll be using either NetBeans or Eclipse for all this? I heard NetBeans was generally considered better, and I think google is using it officially now.

Try combinatorics, that's pretty fun Smiley It's my favourite topic in maths (aside from trig) :p It'll come in handy too!

Feel free to send it to me too. I work with PHP and databases for my job Tongue

OH GOD, ROSIM! SCRAP FREESMFHOSTING BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

Seriously, use 000webhost if you want to maintain backups and have freedom backend providing you want to stick with something free. Requires a little more work to set-up but we're all programmers here, right? Tongue

However, getting on topic a little. I took a look around and it's looking good, I really love your content so far and the way you've structured it. Really nice job! Sadly I don't have time to do tutoring in full swing as I'm busy with work and I'm working on an Android app in my spare time. I might poke my head around to offer what I can though.

I will certainly send people your way should I find some aspiring programmers! Cheesy

(Amen to coding your way around maths homework - I do that too sometimes...)

To a big corporation like them, lawsuits are cheap, cuz you can just pay to win. :D
I wouldn't say they're quite in Apple's league yet.
21  General Boards / Social / Re: The Interwebs Forum Topic of Computerised Assististication of Evionet on: July 16, 2013, 09:41:35 am
It's not like they could just email you and say "Your game is selling pretty well, we'll be needing all assets and scripts from it now, and you can't keep them". I guess if they want to use it to promote their software you have to let them, but that's about it.
I know. It would probably promote self-publicity anyway. Smiley If they did to anything too over the top then they'd receive a backlash from the community.
22  General Boards / Social / Re: The Interwebs Forum Topic of Computerised Assististication of Evionet on: July 16, 2013, 07:25:46 am
They do drop prices, and they also dictate when they release your game, not you, and a lot of devs never have time to build hype for their game, or wait until a big release is over with before releasing their, which hurts the sales.
A quick lawsuit will fix that, and if you delete it, you'll be charged with destruction of private property and have to pay millions in fines D;
A lawsuit is anything but quick (nor cheap). I'd keep that thing rolling for as long as I could to draw out their costs. Anyway I just went through their ToC and all they've mentioned is that they have the right to reuse your game but they can't sell it. Nothing like giving away a commercial game you made, eh? :p In either case, they'll still need to get hold of the files.
23  General Boards / Social / Re: The Interwebs Forum Topic of Computerised Assististication of Evionet on: July 15, 2013, 07:19:35 pm
Pretty much buried in their TOS is the line basically stating that ANY and ALL content made with Game Maker belongs to YoYogames, and you have no right to it. So if they decide to start selling your games, they would would have the right to do so, not you. :3
MS does the same thing with live, it's why indy devs hate making games for live, they have no control over their game after releasing it on live.

Anyhooooo... I've moved away from GM and onto Java! I'm happy here Cheesy And if YoYo want to start selling anything of mine... well, they'll have to get the hands on the source first Tongue

I heard that YoYoGames screwed the community over a bit, I don't know what with, or the truth behind it, but I haven't always heard the greatest things about them (and their damn software always failed to compile for me...).

I might switch back to metro. Start8 just isn't very good, and despite what it says, is nowhere near as good as Windows 7's menu.
You heard right Smiley I forget why exactly but the forums were hacked twice and YoYo handled it really badly.

I discovered that package on Steam, but yeah I would buy it directly from Yoyogames rather than having it stuck to my Steam account right away.
I'm interested into seeing great games made with GameMaker that can be ported on all of these platforms before I buy the set. Because for now, Maddening, Snake HD, Grave Maker, etc. are a bit too rudimental. I want to make good, serious games, adding good graphical assets and effects to my prototypes. Crimelife 3 impressed my designer friend, and I hope to gradually convince him that we can switch from Unity to GameMaker. (Especially because we're making a 2D game that is more control- and animation-oriented than physics-oriented)

Oh god, please not Unity. I wanted to try Unity but the pricing options are just barbaric! That's too much for just 2d stuff Tongue

Gunpoint and Hotline Miami are the recent GM games on Steam. Can't say Hotline Miami is for my taste buuut Gunpoint is amazing, should check it out Smiley

But the steambox will make it the same platform, and it will be an xbox one clone with DRM, and people are dying to get one right now. It makes zero sense.
Indeed. I wouldn't mind one as my laptop can barely even play half the games I own Tongue (Darn you Steam sales!) Plus I'll be living with a few friends soon so I'd love to let them access my games without taking up my computer. xD

I guess it just comes down to change, especially when there's nothing wrong with what's already available. Although you have to admit that Microsoft took one or two things too far on their DRM.
27  General Boards / Social / Re: The Interwebs Forum Topic of Computerised Assististication of Evionet on: July 15, 2013, 11:58:10 am
Why is it people who hated the Xbox One and it's DRM, but love steam and it's DRM. It's the same thing with a different name. :x
It's all about platform. Two completely different platforms at that. Don't forget that Microsoft is trying similar methods with Windows 8 and their app store - that hasn't been taken so well thus far either.

I enjoyed reading this too Smiley
I agree, things are becoming more and more cross-platform, and Linux is benefiting from that. I actually saw on Steam that Yoyogames is selling GameMaker's Master package for $500, and it ports games on Windows 8, Windows Phone, iOS, Linux, Android, Mac OSX and HTML5. That, my friend, is power Smiley. I'm considering buying it.
And I just said that because it shows that things are becoming cross-platform faster than we think.
I think Windows 8 was a nice idea, same for the WiiU. But I don't think we are ready for that yet.
I bought Studio with HTML5 support Smiley It's something... new hehe. Meh, I only use GMS for testing out things and graphics before moving them into Java and then onto Android. I like Studio but it's not a solution to everything. But no doubt that it's come a long way in a short time, if only they fixed the name to sound more professional :p

If you do buy it, there's really no reason to buy it on steam, it's just an extra DRM layer that's not really needed...

I'm running Win8 now, it's not bad, and even though I've installed a start menu replacer, Metro wasn't that bad to use, in fact, it was very quick.
Actually you can buy Studio from YoYo's website and they'll give you a Steam key. I actually got mine on discount by doing an upgrade from my 8.1 key. Not sure if it's still running at the moment though. It's nice to have the Steam Workshop functionality built in anyhow. No problems here!

This is all waaaay over my head. I just got the T&T Mart open lol. Need to play it more but I'm in the middle of taking a 3 hour break from my maths coursework :p

I enjoyed reading your book, Rosim. However, Linux is getting increasingly popular and even more so with the continuation of Steam's mission to support Linux. I can understands Microsoft's desperation when it comes to these new DRM restrictions enforced on the Xbox One. It's like a pre-emptive strike in order to bring their console and PC platforms closer together which they have ever so badly tried before *cough* Games for Windows Live. There is no doubt in my mind that Microsoft would be looking to join PC and Xbox One together under one roof at some point.
Look at the smart phone market for example. You purchase an app or a book and you have it for life. It goes where you go. It goes from device-to-device. It can be accessed from your computer providing it supports it. However, forget running it on a rival device. You're stuck with the provider you have. It's scary business and if you join in too late then... Just look no further than the Windows phone. Of course Microsoft don't want to repeat that mistake again Tongue

Gaming locked you into Windows. Even though that's still the case, the lock is weakening thanks to Steam. I don't blame Microsoft for branching out into new DRM methods. Maybe in their eyes they saw it as: "Hey, we've one-upped Steam by imposing less restrictions on your games". Good ideas, wrong platform/too early.

Dear Microsoft:

PC is not a smart phone.
Xbox is not a smart phone.
Nokia Lumia 925 is not a smart phone. (Sorry, couldn't resist take a jab at it Tongue)

Ps: http://www.windowsphone.com
I just checked out their website and I literally can't believe that they're advertising the Nokia Lumia 925 with the review: "It's better than iPhone, better than Samsung." Nice one. xD
