Okay I just had to make this thread on January 31st..(If you played Persona 3 you would know what this means.)
Okay to start, What's your favorite Persona game?
Mine would have to be Persona 4.

Can we make this thread into a general Shin Megami Tensei thread?
I haven't played any Persona sadly since I never owned any PS.
However, I played Shin Megaten DS and DS Overclocked. Plus that bad mmo Shin Megaten Imagine.

Also, I'm watching the Persona 4 anime! >:3

I love Atlus' universe. They're just so awesome. The Jack brothers are so cute too!

I was thinking but idk, since while kinda in the same series they're different.

But what I was referring to with the date, was that in Persona 3 at the final boss takes place on the night of January 31st when Nyx brings the Fall to kill everyone, and when the MC sacrifices himself to seal her away.  :-\

It's the same universe.
Shin Megami Tensei series, Persona series, Megami Ibunroku series and even Catherine I think.
Devil Survivor isn't Shin Megaten although the US version says so. It's Megami Ibunroku.

Also, Shin Megami Tensei = True Goddess Reincarnation
And, Megami Ibunroku = Alternate Tale of the Goddess
And I think Persona may be part of Megami Ibunroku.

But it's fcked up a bit.

Anyway, same universe, same demons, same Atlus.

Like, there were two games that were released almost at the same time that revolutionized RPG games.
The first Megami Tensei was one of them.
But it doesn't get the credit it should.

I've only played SMT3 Nocturne and SMT Strange Journey.

You should try Devil Survivor. It's the best SRPG I ever played. :D

I played it once on an emu, but I didn't really get that far, I'm waiting for the 2nd one.
I've also played one of the Devil Summoner games, I'm not sure which one, I can't really remember.

I had the first one on Emu and bought the 'Overclocked' version on the 3DS since I liked it so much.
And this version has voice acting which makes it 10 times better. X3

Is started playing Persona 2 Innocent Sin on PSP, it's pretty fun. It's more like the first Persona game than Persona 3 or 4.

Maybe I'll finally be able to play one!
And there's P5 in development. I wonder if that's the one they'll release for the 3DS...

You could play Catherine then, which is similar to Persona. (The main character actually shows up in Persona 3 Portable.)

I know about Catherine. I wanna play it so bad...
But never will an Xbox be in my possession!

I started Persona, the first one.
I don't really get the negotiations though.
Nor do I get the stats. Like what they all do and everything. :/

Oh that one. What are you playing it on? I thought you didn't have any PS?
The negotiations are kinda messed up, sometimes you'll say something that makes sense due to their listed personality and it ends up making them angry.
I don't really like the stat spread in that game, only the char who does the most in the battle gets the most xp.
The first ones okay, but P2 improved. And I kinda prefer the P3&P4 style over both.

I'm gonna play them all.
I kinda got an half dead PS2.
And that shop had Persona by some kinda miracle... XD
The controller stops working sometimes too...

Are P3 and P4 dungeon crawlers too?

You're playing the NA PS1 version? (The one where they changed the names of the characters to american names. XD)
I never finished it, the random encounter rate was just really high and it got frustrating.
Both P1 and P2 have identical battle systems but in P2 the dungeon crawling is in 3rd person rather than first, and I think it improved a lot. (Unfortunately, only P2 Eternal Punishment came out in NA on PS1, the one before it, P2 Innocent Sin, only just came out over here as a remake on PSP.)

And yeah P3 and P4 are dungeon crawlers too, in 3rd person. But the battle system is different and no random encounters. (Better, IMO. Like you pick the characters moves one at a time rather. It's kinda hard to explain, you need to see it.)
In P3 you have one huge dungeon with like 200 something floors, and at every full moon there is a boss battle. You go to the dungeon at night and after school you can choose what you want to do, like hang out with a friend to get their social link up (Each social link character has an Arcana and the higher their social link level is, the more bonus exp you'll get when you fuse a Persona of that Arcana.) or get your stats up etc.
P4 is similar in that you have a calendar and you go to school, social links and such. Except this time you have multiple dungeons in the TV world, that changes whenever someone is thrown in the TV, you then have before the the fog sets in to finish the dungeon, beat the boss and rescue the person.

The random encounter rate is quite annoying yes.
And the US names are monstrous.
And I don't have a map for the overworld which makes it too hard. q_q

So no Innocent sin? Bummer...

I'm familiar with the social link stuff that gets you arcanas. Since it's basically the same in the P4 anime.

I recommend getting Persona 3 first (Preferably Persona 3 FES which has extra stuff like a playable epilogue.) since playing Persona 4 then Persona 3 makes P3 look bad in comparison. (Unless it's Persona 3 Portable which adds a lot of gameplay stuff from P4, and a female MC option. But it lacks the epilogue from FES.)
Both games have REALLY good stories.

EDIT:
When I level up in Persona, some of my stats -and of the other characters- have a red line after the green line. When I increase those stats, it doesn't grow my HP or ATK or whatever.
Why is that?

Also, I have no idea what to increase so I was raising only TECHNIC like a n00b.
It increases my attacks and something like DOD or I dun remember...

P3, P3 FES, and P4 are on PS2.
P1, and P2 Innocent Sin have remakes on PSP, and also Persona 3 Portable. Then the PSVita is getting Persona 4 The Golden which adds new stuff like a new character. (Not sure about everything, as I haven't check any updates on it.)
PS1 games work on PS3, but only old rare PS3's can play PS2 games.

As for the Persona stat thing, I'm not sure I haven't played the game in a while. GameFaqs i guess. :S

I love Devil Survivor 2.
The new UI is awesome and blue is refreshing after playing through the 1st one.
The Dubhe or whatever look awesome too.

And the changed the Race Skill Charm I guess.
It's now called Glamour but it still does the same.

The Race Skill of the Poltergeist is useful. Ghost Wounds.
Reduce opposing team's range to 1 and movement by half. Range: 3.
And the Extra Cancel Command Skill of Obariyon is beyond useful XD

I just started it since I finished DS Overclocked.
The Messiah route.
The 8th Day was amazing. I felt important, kinda. :D
Though the 7th Day was a pain... TOO MANY BOSS FIGHTS---!

They've been talking about P5 for a long time. It's gonna be very dark and it's not gonna be about high schoolers but most likely college students or just people of college age dealing wiht life outside of high school, and it's gonna be on the PS4. Maybe even the PS3.

I want it to be like P4G, only better.
Everything in P4G was perfect so they gotta be godlike this time.

So SMT IV is totally awesome~
But it is rated M for masochistic.
Seriously, it's is SO hard! All the other SMT side games are nothing compared to it.
After you die a couple times, the game gives you the option of lowering the difficulty.
I did so right away. XD

The graphics are beautiful too. Even if it's on the freaking 3DS.
