Title: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Post by: Sammy on January 10, 2012, 09:31:05 am
So, what's your favourite race and what are you playing as in Skyrim?
Is it different to your Oblivion character, or the same?
Why?!

At the moment, I am playing as a High Elf. Simply because I love using the magic in this game.
And High Elves had an awesome advantage. ^__^

Also, This is a general discussion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I'm a level 38 Nord, using Dragonplate armor and a Daedric Sword and Shield, my swords name is Way to the Dawn.

Im playing as a nord cause i wanted to be a human.

First run through the game I picked a dunmer (darkelf), mainly because on oblivion I remember them to be good at archery, magic and melee. I always loved magic but also loved using a sword and shield, that's the main reason I picked the dunmer because I like using all 3 styles.
Second runthrough I chose a nord, just so I can make a pure warrior spec character.

I've only done one run through so far, its a all round Nord. Like it a lot, not sure which one to pick for my next p;ay through.

I probably would of only generally done one gamethrough but my first one had a gamebreaking glitch and I couldn't go back to an older save, so I made a new game.

That feel when you rename your Daedric Sword Way to the Dawn and then an hour later you get a Daedric Artifact named Dawnbreaker.  ;D

I don't has Skyrim, but in Most TES games, I usually have two characters.

A Breton Mage and a Khajiit Thief.

Nord Spellsword.

Why would you play a game based in the land of the Nords and not be a Nord?

NORDS FTW!

People used the same logic for Oblivion.  Everyone was an Imperial.

I bet if the next game takes place in Black Marsh or the Khajiit Homeland (That's impossible to spell or pronounce :P), people will still hardly play as Argonians and Khajiit :P

Elsweyr..?
I never played as an imperial in oblivion.. and i've played through many times haha. Though in morrowind I did play as a dark elf (didn't know it was their province haha, I was pretty young and wasn't into games (like to the extent where I remember everything)>

They are like the perfect Mage Class.  The high-elfs are tough but their weakness to magic is a major downfall.

True, but in Elder Scrolls you can be an orc and still be good at magic, it's not really that much of a difference (yeah there is early game, but late game not so much).
My view is, why be a Breton which is practically a human in a world revolved around fantasy where you can be all these other races. The whole point of the game is to live another life in a different world, so why would I be a human when I can be an elf or an orc.

Well if I was a Kahjit I wouldn't want to stop fighting and extend my leg and start licking it. And I hate lizards.

Also, dual Wielding two Daedric swords that do 75 damage with fully upgraded Daedric armor. Is this good or should I stop?

Haha pre sure if you have daedric, you're OP... :P Game got a bit boring once I got full daedric.. considering making another character..

This is why I always choose to be Elven. This is fantasy! ^-^

MAYBE I will try Nord in my next save just because their Skyrim folk :3 but I find being human boring. And I wanna be an awesome mage!
I guess I could live just being a physical warrior charrie TwT

I know, I'm saying that Bretons are usually my main character, since it provides a bit of a challenge considering how hard it is to be a mage early in the game.

But it's not the only character I use, I always have my Khajiit Thief and sometimes my Nord Claymore user.  And if I'm really bored, an Orc Axe user.  It's just my first character is usually a Breton :P

Khajiit are awesome! They can see in the dark! I sometimes use Night Eye in the day to define darker landscapes like underwater or indoors too.
I drew a Khajiit Dragon the other day. maybe ill post it later

Yeah I'm OP. I have another Nord file but I'm so obsessed with my first one.

Do eet, the Magicka boost really helps you out in early/midgame, and you don't need to worry about the High Elf's severe weaknesses.

I haven't played Shivering Isles yet, I was going to with my high level character, but then I had to uninstall all my Oblivion mods for my Mod Manager to work and it ruined the game -_-

There isn't as many Argonians let alone Redguards to do that, like with Nords its like 50-90% of the population.

What do you mean by that? If you said what I think you said, then it all matters on how good you are and if you get caught or not..
edit: why not go assassining all the Jarl's after you do their quest, or does it still not let you kill them? I haven't tried killing a Jarl yet.

Nope. i had a high elf on my first play through who only used magic, and in Oblivion i only had mages, So my friend was like "magic is for sissies! i bet you couldn't beat the game without it". Challenge accepted. Beat it on Master. Took me forever though.

My perks are all in heavy armor, Two handed, enchanting and smithing. I have all the shouts because that is all I have as far as range is concerned.

Magic isn't for sissies, early game magic gets you killed... a lot. Then you join mages guild, do that, level up... finish mages guild and create your own spells (lol) and then near end game you become OP as f----

I do unarmed combat with my characters. What good is being a Nord if you can't throw it in people's faces?

Bracers that give 2245943034501324 extra points of damage upon strike? Now the only thing I need is the ability to put Soul Trap on them so I can literally beat the souls out of people.

Basically, there's no check in place in Enchanting. Which means you can disenchant something that has Fortify Enchanting, then enchant something with it, then while wearing that, enchant a new item with it, until you have an amulet or something that gives Enchantments are 23423985643532948250983452% stronger for 0 seconds". Then, you can just run around and enchant stuff until you die.

As in the daedric one?

Yes.

Title: Re: Skyrim~ which race did you choose?
Post by: Vlatko on January 24, 2012, 07:32:14 pm
Yes.
First way: You have to kill NPCs you did quests for. You can either go on a killing rampage in a town or select your victims one by one.
Second Way ("Victimless"): You have to own Breezehome and have to have Lydia as a Housecarl. You have to kill Lydia with the Ebony Blade and resurrect her using console commands (click on Lydia and type in "resurrect" without the quotes). Repeat until the Whispering Lady tells you that the blade has returned to it's full glory (around 10 times).
Instead of using console commands, you can just kill 1 person who likes you, and reanimate them with "Dead Thrall." Because "Dead Thrall" doesn't turn them into ash when they die, the NPC can just be repeatedly killed the require number of times. This should also work for consoles. Confirmed on 360. (Needs confirmation on PC and PS3.)
If you do not have "Dead Thrall," you may be able to reduce the amount of victims by using other reanimation spells on NPCs you have killed. (Confirmed PS3)
Third Way ("Victimless" and works on console) complete the Dark Brotherhood quest series and continue to kill your Initiates. They respawn every few days as a male or female version. (needs verification)doesnt work on 360 initiates dont die
(struck: Meeko counts as a victim, thus there is no "no victims" way of upgrading the blade. Any NPC killed will count towards the upgrade, even if you resurrect them via console commands.)
Incidentally, the other Daedric Shrine quests often provide numerous opportunities to upgrade the Ebony Blade. Boethiah's quest involves both slaying a companion (one charge) and the cult leader who gives the quest upon investigation (second charge). If you choose to obtain Mehrune's Razor at the end of 'Pieces of the Past,' Silus counts towards another charge. The same applies to Hircine's quest, should you choose the Savior's Hide instead of the Ring of Hircine.
Mercenaries and followers are also easy ways to add charges. Foes that you best in gambling brawls often become followers immediately thereafter, and mercenaries can be hired for 500 gold.
For PC players, another way to cheat and empower the blade without negatively effecting NPC relationships is to find NPCs like bandits to set to a relationship rank of 3 or higher via the console and then kill them. This is the only way for a player who wants to maintain an unblemished "good guy" radiant story set to empower the blade. Otherwise, such as with the resurrect method, effected NPCs and their affiliations are liable to maintain the negative mark against the player resulting in, among possible other changes, greetings such as "Every time I see you my blood boils." and "What do you need you miserable wretch." etc.
Another charge can be obtained by killing the blind bandit in White River Watch. Just tell him you are who he thinks you are first. It should give you a charge (it did for my game) since he thinks you're telling the truth.
Another way of doing this is by finding a beggar within the town, giving them a single septim, then immediately killing them. This counts as a 'quest'/like status with them, and will give you a charge.

No nightingale's are meant to be thieves and what not, not warriors.. that's why they didn't make a shield.

Ohh right, not sure if its the same thing but theres a doorway on the outskirts of Skyrim (pre sure it shares the boreder with other Hammerfell or cyrodiil), but it's widely discussed over the forum that there could be a possible DLC that lets you into Cyrodiil or something like that. Google it you might get more information, I'm to tired to think straight haha.

I could say the same thing with cod, I played CoD 3 and MW (4) like a billlion hours back in the day, then after like MW2 it became like the most popular game within the community.. Elder scrolls has always been popular, it's just some reason skyrim was a HUGE hype.. and everyone got it, everyone talks about it, because of the fact everyone talks about it and haves it everyone else that doesn't have it gets it.. IMO i love that their is lots of new joiners to elder scrolls.. but when it gets overun by noobs it turns to shi-.. thankfully it's not online like cod so you dont have to complain as much and just let them play and then stop playing and letting the pros rack up their hours.

That is why I said. My friend on Xbox has one character and about one hundred saves and he takes up about as much as me both nothing happens.

Nyehhhh! My Skyrim is taking 10-15 minutes to load because the file on my xbox is too large. I tried to delete my old files. But it's only helping a little. I had two characters, deleted one completely and somehow my one character takes up 4 gb of space.
Yeahh, my PS3 does that.. it's not that long for me but it still loads a bit slower then it did when I first got it.. :P

Well, you guys are using console. Console version take a while to load by themselves.
I have it on Xbox and on PC. PC version loads so fast I can't even read the loading screens blurb.

I love how I only made this thread to see who made what kind of characters, and it kinda got taken over by everyone : P

Oh, and I decided to make a new file with a Nord (I felt left out being the only High Elf)
And I can't get through the first part now :'D

I decided on redguard. They are similar to nords, because of there combat based racial bonuses, but they aren't OU.

Hahha, yeah it's not hard to platinum it.. You just need to put in some solid hours a day. You should be able to get it generally through playthrough (but a few of them), like if you do the read 50 skill books one, you can generally do that while doing side quests (another trophy)

I had an interesting idea... bring my 32" from my room, into the room with the 42" bravia, grab my other 50" tv, set up the 50" and the 32" on the coffee table of the room with the bravia... skyrim sesh on the 2 tvs... just because unplugging the bravia will be a **** and the one in my room and the 50" in the other room has like 3 wires... if that xD. we could also have like one on the bravia and the other on my 32" but it's just the distances and we won't have equal view of the screens and will be off... though one will have a massive screen and the other won't have as big :P.. just throwing ideas around xD

And Skyrim got its first DLC. PC-Exclusive.

High Res Texture Pack.

If your computer can run skyrim, then there is now no reason to buy it for consoles.

It's gonna be an immortal mode runthrough, but Im giving my character some background. His name is Muergein the Daedra(Black Khajiit). His goal is to destroy all human races. He wears a suit-thing(whatever i can find that looks fancy) and kills with an ebony dagger and a yet-to-be-distinguished bow. And he'll be maxed out with all stats, magic, and shouts :D

a genocide, regarding to humans, is the intentional wiping out of a specific group of people. I'm wiping out all human races, and trying to leave alone the beast and elf races. well, i might wipe out the elves...

IMO it doesn't. The game is easy enough as it is. Though some perks and stuff become useless.
I think Fallout with TGM is more entertaining than Skyrim with TGM.

But with cheats in skyrim you can find morrowind.

I don't think your supposed to go there though, that's why it's just terrain. So if you see it from a distance looks like somethings there.

I did. I have like seven saves left and it's not working. And now the game is frraking out. When I go into a newly discovered cave there is a big blue spot. Even in buildings.

This is what happened when I went into a temple. I Had to walk around because I would fall into the locked basement if I didn't.

Best Game Ever.

I am trying to get some decent house mods, but there is a person called "HouseCarl" that makes **** mods and it keeps interfering with the search results.

I did. I have like seven saves left and it's not working. And now the game is frraking out. When I go into a newly discovered cave there is a big blue spot. Even in buildings.

http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/423802_122479024544093_100003459894841_63743_1905037189_n.jpg?dl=1

This is what happened when I went into a temple. I Had to walk around because I would fall into the locked basement if I didn't.
Hmmmm that is weird, but skyrim has loads of glitches (pretty much every single bethesda game has) try playing around with the settings or if your using the pc version try and download a mod that will help

So I had this idea. The textures/skeletons/etc. can be transferred from Pokepark to Brawl, so would it be possible to transfer them to Skyrim? I know it would be a difficult process and I've already been told why(So I don't need ppl telling me why it would be hard or if it would NOT work). I started coming up with ideas if it was possible and I'm going to post my brainstorming ideas on other sites to see if anyone can transfer pokemon to skyrim. The only real pokemon mod ive seen is a roselia and Ive heard it looked too freaky, and there are a lot of glitches. So Id like to see something more realistic :)

Video of Hoppip in Brawl:

There's some tutorials on how to do this kind of stuff too.

Yeah it would work, things like this have been done countless times before, I just don't know anybody who would bother doing it.  If I was good with models I might be able to do it, but then you need to send over the animations which might not be compatible so it would need to be converted over and over.

It can be done, but it isn't worth the effort to most people.

My God...

Edit: Also in recent news, Skyrim 1.5 update is in Beta, you can get it if you want but it does have plenty of bugs and will break the CK if you want to use it.

Most of the new features include kill cams and visual effects, but also plenty of bug fixes (Such as finally being able to marry Lydia when you move into Whiterun).

I got a mod for Skyrim that redoes about 95% of the Player's dialogue to sound like a Khajiit, so it inspired me to start another game as a Khajiit.

I love the way the conversations sound now.

Priest: You need to take the potion to get to the other side.
Me: Khajiit refuse to drink potion, it could kill him!  Go get some Argonian to do it!

I was doing the Emperor Assassination quest where you kill the fake one, that cook, Gianna, would talk to me but at the 'It's just...' she would suddenly stop and there was no way to proceed with the quest. XD
Looked a bit on the Wiki. Found out that if you're a vampire, the quest won't work.
However, in my case, it was my custom race.
Because she's like:
- It's just...
- I never thought the Gourmet would be a <insert race here>.
This would cause an issue since my race isn't coded in the game itself you know.
I had to change race just for that quest and it's such a pain with that update.
All my stats get mixed up and I go back to having my hands tied... -.-
So like I have to set my stats through the console everytime I modify my character. q_q

If you have the PC version, a custom race fix might be able to fix that too.

Also, I found a race mod that adds a bunch of Lore Friendly races to the game, such as Ayelids, Dwemer, Maormer, Falmer (The Old Snow Elf ones), Half-Giants, Half-Goblins, Forsworn, and Lilmothiit (Although, the Lilmothiit looks less like the Fox Race it is supposed to be in TES Lore, but more of a deformed Khajiit xD).

My SkyrimLauncher.exe stop working.
Every time I open it, it automatically stops responding.
I am now forced to 'Custom Launch' Skyrim through the Nexus MM by specifying the TESV.exe instead of SkyrimLauncher.exe.

I tried everything and searched the web like a mad man but there is no fix.
Except maybe reinstalling and I don't want that.

Yes, all my mods still work when I launch NMM pointing to TESV.

You can do everything the launcher does and more with the Mod manager (Other than a few graphical settings).

And why not get the Script Extender from www.skse.silverlock.org (http://www.skse.silverlock.org)?  Though you need to update it with each Skyrim Update.

On the topic of my new character, everyone is Racist to my Khajiit ;_;

This game has so many faults it's impossible. Do Bethesda even care anymore?
Like the Esbern problem. This should have been fixed a while ago.

Anyway, Get Your Reward from Skald is stuck there in my journal forever and there's nothing to do about it because the state of the quest is supposedly incomplete leaving it on the 'displayed' status.
And it wasn't even a giant I killed but THE DRAGON AT SHEARPOINT FOR THE 100TH TIME!

Don't know, but it has been "Leaked" (I use that word lightly, since the hints were included in the last PC update's files) that it will Involve Snow Elves, which if you don't know are the Falmer before they were turned into whatever they are now.

It may have to do with dawnstar, because of the name, and the fact that dawnstar, other than the cleansing of the evilness, really has nothing to do with the storyline.

In the past few days of playing my Khajiit save I just realized, they didn't include the Tail Curl Around animation for when Khajiit sit down D:

In Oblivion, if a Khajiit sat down, their tail would curl around next to their legs, to avoid clipping issues.  But in Skyrim, their tail just sticks through the bottom of the seat.

What I'd give for a mod that fixes it, it's just immersion breaking and annoying >.<

We all knew it was coming, but it wasn't confirmed until now.

But I won't really be looking forward to it.  I liked Skyrim because it was a Single Player RPG.

It's almost as bad as SWTOR.  Lots of the people who loved KOTOR I/II liked them because they were Single Player RPGs.  Making the "Sequel" an MMO was a bad idea.

Though, this isn't the official sequel, so I'm fine with it, I just don't think it will be a big success other than the money it will make from hype.

Edit: On a different topic, Morrowind is on sale for the next four days on Steam, and I can get it.  Is it worth it?  I know the Nexus Mod Manager recently added Morrowind support :P

Find a way to try it illegally. I can't play it because its so much more different than skyrim and oblivion, and the sneaking mechanics are so complicated and dumb :/

Yes there is, you can do a conjurer and arche build, the good thing about it is, that for instance, your damage modifiers for conjuration, stacks onto your archery damage modifiers, so you can literally do like 2000 damage with a bow that does 20 without any modifiers/skills

Do all dmg mod for conjuration stacks with the proper skill dmg mod?
Swords, Axes, etc.

Well, I just bought it around 10 seconds after reading the word 'mod' soo yeah get it.

The Elder Scrolls Online
1st Interview

Quote
"We have to make our own game. We want to make a good game first. Not a good MMO, not a good Elder Scrolls game, we want to make a good game first, a great experience for the player."

"Right now we don't have a large modding plan. We do have plans for things like our UI, allowing the community to look at the UI and say 'Ok, what changes would I make?'

There are definite ways the community is going to be able to change their game experience, but you have to be really careful with this because you can't allow players to change other players' game experiences or they get a little upset with you. "

Costume mods should be alright.
Moving around in a Wolverine suit for example.
And lighting mods are okay too.
What else?

Huge doesn't even describe it. :o

If you've moded your base bow stats for instance, and then you've nodded your conjuration, they will stack ONLY when your using a conjoured bow, otherwise, no

Get all of your mods here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/ (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/)

Not really one click install like Steam, but if you don't know how to install it on your own, try getting the Nexus Mod Manager, makes installing mods almost one click.  Gopher (http://www.youtube.com/user/Gophervids) has alot of useful tutorials.

And if you want to get Serious about mods, you should get SKSE (http://skse.silverlock.org), since alot of the good mods need it.  Make sure to read the install instructions carefully.  It's not that difficult but you can mess it up if you don't know what you are doing.

I did kind of rant on, but those are some good tips for using mods.

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_V:_Dawnguard (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_V:_Dawnguard)

Apperently the new transformation is a "Vampire Lord", it overrights the lycanthrope disease if you have it (:(), but apperently you can regain it later if you want (:D).

And it also adds two new perk trees for Vampires and Werewolves.

Oh, and they are bringing crossbows back :D

And I was kind of right, there are gorgoyles, but they are enemies :P

Last but not least, a new NPC is added to the Riften Ratways who can change your appearence, but not your race/gender.  This is good for the Console and PC versions, since in the PC version, using console commands to alter your appearence also resets your stats and race bonus.

And you can sign up for a beta test for Dawnguard, like how you can sign up for version beta tests on Steam, except it is more exclusive.  Oh, and it is only for Xbox players too.

One last thing, if you have the Console Version, they will add mounted combat, so you can use bows and melee weapons on a horse.  But this was already added in the 1.6 update for PC players.

Wow, this was a messy post, but you guys get the point :P

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

I find mounted combat really hard... And I also looked all this up :3 I can't wait for crossbows for my new archer character :3 I do like long bows more, but crossbows are nice if you have a little more time since they are slower to reload and are more powerful.

From what I read, you can do it by finishing the quests or, if you were previously a werewolf, you could talk to Aela the Huntress and she could turn you back to a werewolf.

Bump

So yesterday I was downloading a huge armor mod, and I remember thinking to myself, "What are the odds that this mod will be updated tomorrow and I'll have to redownload it before I even get to use this version?".  But I shrugged it off and got it anyway.

Well guess what happened today...  It updated.  Before I even got to see the current version...
Why must Skyrim Mods update SO much?  I love that they are actively supported by their authors, but it's getting a little annoying...

If it's just bug fixes, or like one extra thing in the mod, you might as well keep your version until there is a more major update.

Yeah, looks a little out of place, but still cool.

Also, if that was Morrowind in the trailer:

It's not. It's still in sky rim but it looks like MOrrowind.

Oh...  Well, as long as there's Silt Striders, I'm happy ^_^

Edit: Nevermind, I thought I saw a Silt Strider at 0:26.  It was just a plant...

So I'm getting ready for an alternate Skyrim Save.  I had an idea to start with a scrawny custom race character and have them progress as a warrior by using this mod (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29476/).  Now should I use Maces/Hammers, Axes, or Swords and should I be one-handed or two-handed?  I've always been fond of the Axes, but I've never tried Maces/Hammers before...

I also want to know if I should go with the Stormcloaks or Imperials?  I always go with the Imperials, so I've never had a chance to play as a stormcloak.  I do love the Stormcloak Armor.

(this is the customm race if anyone's interested (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13561))

Alright I'm confused. Why do NPC's I'm fighting sometimes ask for mercy when I'm about to kill them and run away, only to end up attacking me again and make me finish the job? I'm mean I get that It could happen sometimes, but it happens every time, is every enemy a dumbass or something?

They are thugs. They go down and start regenerating health and then try again but fail.

All NPCs in Bethesda games are like that.  People in Fallout 3 and NV did it as well.

Yeah, I was in a wrecked ship near Windhelm and there was a bird flying underneath the deck in a closed-off space XD

Oh hey, this topic is a thing.
I've played Skyrim on and off for a while. I have Dawnguard, plan to get Dragonborn soon.

Current characters I'm running:

One handed/light armor/sneak/restoration/destruction dual wielding spellsword.
One handed/light armor/sneak/block/smithing hit and run mace character. I rarely stop moving and attack long enough for the mace's low attack speed to matter. I run in, hit them once, run off, if they get too close, shield bash them to stun them, whack them with the mace, run off again. I rarely get hit by melee attacks.
lolgenericsneak/illusion/daggersvampire
One handed/heavy armor/block/conjuration/destruction mage knight. I call it a mage knight instead of a spellsword because to me what makes the difference between the two is armor. I just made this character yesterday.

I'm also thinking of starting a Bound Bow specialized character soon.

:\

Did you see it?
Sometimes I can't even see the path. I have to take out the map to move through underground jungles. It makes no sense.
And on the way to that village down the throat of the world, it was lagging as hell.
That's also a reason why I removed it. My lappy isn't too powerful y'know?

But, the guys who did the mod are really AWESOME~
I mean, I never would have imagined such a good overhaul. More than an overhaul, it was like a new game.

Better plan, get Arena and Daggerfall for free as Bethesda released them for free on the series' tenth anniversary (use these links for easier to use installers: Arena (http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Arena_:_ArenaSetup_EN), Daggerfall (http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Daggerfall_:_DaggerfallSetup)) then wait for the rest to go on sale on Steam. It's worth the wait, I barely spent anything on Morrowind/Oblivion.

Sato is right.

Unless you really want the books and maps, it's kinda a waste.

Skyrim Ultimate can be sold for as low as 29.99, with Oblivion for 6$ and Morrowind for 3$
Both Oblivion and Morrowind have all the expansions.
And Arena and Daggerfall are free now.

Just finished the Main Story of the Dragonborn DLC. Did some, but not all of the sidequests.

My Thoughts.

It's really annoying how once you start the main quest of it and do it's first real dungeon that your Dragon Souls start getting stolen. You basically need to enter the DLC with about 3, maybe even 6, dragon souls ready to go. This is because one shout that is required to finish the questline doesn't pay for itself like Unrelenting Force.

The Magic you can gain on Solsteim is great, espeically for a conjuror. I suspect to use my Seeker, Ash Spawn, and Ash Guardian a lot even once I return to Skyrim.

The Shouts available are too awesome to spoil.

The ability to make Dragonbone Weapons means there's even more reason to practice smithing if you happen to be a warrior. I am a mage, so that's not too important, but it's good for money either way.
